북아메리카 소노라 사막
소노라 사막은 캘리포니아 남동부, 애리조나 남서부, 멕시코의 바하 캘리포니아반도, 캘리포니아만의 섬, 소노라주
서부 등 미국의 서부로부터 멕시코 국경에 걸쳐 있는 뜨겁고 건조한 지역이다. 이 사막은 한 계절에 쌍봉형(bimodal)
강우 패턴을 띠는데 우기에도 대부분의 날은 화창하다. 이러한 강우패턴은 높은 생물다양성을 가져온다. 소노라
사막에는 2,000종 이상의 식물, 60종 이상의 포유류, 120종 이상의 양서·파충류 그리고 350종 이상의 벌들이
살고 있다.
이 숲은 사와로 국립공원(Saguaro National Park)의 현지 조사결과를 바탕으로 변경주속(Carnegia),
엔켈리아속(Encelia), 부채선인장속(Opunita), 페로칵투스속(Ferocactus), 용설란속(Agave) 등으로
조성 하였다.
The Sonora Desert covers an expansive area across the hot and dry lands of the western United States to the Mexican
border, including southeastern California, southwestern Arizona, Baja California peninsula, the islands in the
Gulf Of California, and Western Sonora. Rain falls in the Sonora Desert in a bimodal pattern, while even during the
rainy season, most days are sunny.
This forest is composed of the genera Carnegia, Encelia, Opunita, Ferocactus, and Agave, to name a few, based upon
on-site investigations by the Saguaro National Park.
