Division of Ecological Monitoring
The Division of Ecological Monitoring provides basic information necessary for national policies on natural environmental conservation by conducting surveys on terrains, vegetation, fauna and flora throughout the country. It also conducts studies to designate and manage conservation areas through detailed investigations of ecological and landscape conservation areas and surveys of coastal dunes, uninhabited islands, and specified islands. Of these, the National Natural Environment Survey is the largest natural ecosystem survey conducted in Korea. The first survey began in 1986 and the fourth survey is currently in progress. Results of the survey are used to prepare and update ecological and natural maps needed for managing national lands.
